The story

Mother’s Cloth

I began developing the idea for Mother’s Cloth in 2023 during a life-changing period in my own journey. I wanted to create a work that carried a sense of comfort, protection, and emotional refuge. The piece was inspired by traditional Madonna and Child imagery, particularly the way these works portray the bond between mother and child as a symbol of love, devotion, and spiritual connection.

In Mother’s Cloth, the cloth becomes a symbol of generational memory—the comfort, protection, and wisdom passed from one generation to the next. The mother’s act of wrapping the child represents care, nurturing, and the preservation of something precious.

The colors, patterns, and symbols throughout the work were intuitively placed, allowing the composition to develop organically while holding personal meaning. The gradient horizon behind the mother’s eyes represents continuity: a connection between where she comes from, where she is, and where she is going. Her gaze carries a sense of reflection and peace, acknowledging both her history and her future.

The child represents creation, creativity, and the continuation of life. Wrapped within the mother’s cloth, the child becomes a symbol of what we protect, nurture, and pass forward. Through this work, I explore the relationship between motherhood, ancestry, memory, and the invisible threads that connect generations.
